FAQ about Mediation

What is mediation?

“MEDIATION is a process in which an impartial third party facilitates communication and negotiation and promotes voluntary decision making by the parties to the dispute. Mediation serves various purposes, including providing the opportunity for parties to define and clarify issues, understand different perspectives, identify interests, explore and assess possible solutions, and reach mutually satisfactory agreements, when desired.”

~ Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators

What types of issues should be brought to mediation?

While Pangea Mediation specializes in divorce and custody mediation, we do all kinds of mediation: workplace, elder and more. If you are not sure if it is appropriate for mediation, just ask us!

What happens if the other person/people won’t agree to mediate?

Mediation is a voluntary process so we cannot force anyone to participate. However, we can reach out to them and discuss the process and its benefits. If you are the only one who wants to mediate, you can do conflict coaching to learn how to handle the situation differently.
